Fishing Report #24

12/13/06

Hello again to my fish'in frenz!

My open water season officially ended Thurs. morning, Nov. 30, 2006. Didn't quit make it to my all time record of Dec. 8th. but close enough. I was so grateful to have spent the entire month of November chasing walleyes. Usually by mid-month the boat is already high, dry and resting at Fremac's indoor winter storage.

A very big thank you for all your support during the 2006 season. Many of you have fished with me during the past few years and I truly appreciate your loyalty. This was an exceptional season on Oneida and I can only hope for the same in 2007. I will be quite busy this winter with my seminars at Bass Pro Shop in Auburn, NY. There will be regular emails announcing each event. My first seminar will be on Sat., Jan., 20 at 11:00 A.M. and I will be talking about the Brown trout and early spring salmon fishery.

We did manage a few nice catches of walleyes to close out our November effort.

Don Myers, (Ret. Marine Master Sergeant), Bridgeport, Don Churchill, retired A.D. Corcoran, and pharmacist Joe Barbuto, Liverpool casted into the evening to boat these plump walleyes. We used a variety of baits to entice "ole marble eyes" to the boat. The Jr. Thunderstick (firetiger), Bass Pro Shops XPS Lazer Eye Minnow (blue/silver) and the Challenger (black/silver) all combined to make the evening a success. Two measured in the twenty inch range and most were full of shad.

Rich Modliszewski, (Cicero) prepared for Thanksgiving by fishing with me the evening before the big feast. He began his night with a 24 inch Pickerel on the second cast. His lure of choice is the Yozuri in the black/silver finish. As darkness came so did a few walleyes and Rich accommodated with a limit catch.

Dan Kallfelz, North Chittenango and I combined to boat a limit of walleyes in a final effort to close the season. What remained consistent through out the fall was the robust size of Oneida's walleyes. They unequivocally had abundant feed during 2006.  Dan's favorite "projectile" is the Husky Jerk (blue/silver).  Although we all have our personal choice in the lure category and colors seem to remain the same from lure to lure.

If some of you are into the last minute Christmas shopping and are in a quandary trying to decide what to give to someone who already has all the toys...there's always a fishing charter gift certificate to bring a smile to their face. Many of you have already taken advantage of that, and I thank you again for choosing to fish with me. If you do need a gift certificate either email me or call (315) 427-2278.

For the last minute deer hunters, if you are looking for a very good, reliable deer processor and excellent smoker check out Phil Roe, Hamilton, NY (315) 824-1426. I have had Phil's smoked venison products and there are none better.

A very happy, healthy, Christmas to you all,
