CAPTAIN TONY BUFFA FISHING CHARTERS
Fishing Report #22 10/31/06 Happy Walleyeween to my Fishin Frenzoids: It's not exactly "Trick or Trout" but it is truly walleye nightcast time!! Let's look at the results from tonight back through the week. Ron Granger, Tully, NY and Jerry Tillotson, Erieville, NY weren't at all spooked by the walleyes. We anchored by 4:45 P.M. in 5.5 feet and the dinner bell rang at 5:05 for our first walleye of the evening. By 6:15 P.M. it was over with their limit and my limit of very plump walleyes. The longest was 20 and 1/4 inches with most measuring around 18. Again the lure of choice was the XPS Bass Pro Shops Nitro Lazer Eye Minnow in the Blue/Chrome finish. We also applied Mustad's magic fish catching pheromone elixir "Ultra Bite Stimulate" to the lures every 15 mins. Their new formula (ACTIVATE) should be on the market shortly.
The weather prevailed over the weekend and resulted in cancelled charters which have been rescheduled for Nov. We did fish last Thurs. evening and Steven Peltz, Skaneateles, and guest Kevin Murphy, Owasco did land their limit of "eyes". By now if you have read any of my nightchast reports you should know the lure of choice. Right again, XPS Nitro (Suspend model) neutrally buoyant stickbait combined with fish magnetic applique from Mustad.
Fish do bite during the day. On Sunday morning, Oct. 22, Peter Banks, Horseshoe Island, NY, Willie Rodriguez, Syr., NY and Bill Martin, Bayberry jigged their way to a nice catch of walleyes and bass. They boated 15 bass of which they kept 9 and 4 walleyes. This time the lure du jour was the Sonar. If you look closely in the foreground of the photo you will see the orange pattern sonor (Mad River Sports creation). It far and away out fishes other patterns. These fish were caught in 21 feet at the mouth of the canal. The big walleye caught by Peter measured 20 + inches.
On Wednesday, Oct. 18 Steve Aiello, Fayetteville, and president of COR landed the biggest sheepshead I have ever seen on the deck of MY GAL CAL II. He jigged this "monster" in 32 feet off the bottom with a sonor properly enhanced with Mustad pheromones. It weighed 16.5 lbs. not quite a NYS record. I believe the current record is in the 20 lb. category. We did release this sheeper back to its home out of sheer respect for its longevity.
Although we have had a tough Oct. weather wise, when we have had the opportunity to venture out the catches have been rewarding. The water temperature is now in the high 40's and the fish are packing the lbs. for winter. The fall bite is definitely in high gear. I do intend to stay in towards Thanksgiving and hope the weather cooperates. If you are interested in a late season charter I can be reached at (315) 427-2278.
Let the "fish" be with you,
cap'n tony
