CAPTAIN TONY BUFFA FISHING CHARTERS
Fishing Report #20 08/15/06
Hello to my "reel" frenz Good news from the big pond. King and Coho salmon have finally found their way into the shore waters. During recent outings, kings and cohos were caught in 85 to 125 feet with a thermocline at 75 to 90 feet below the surface. That sure beats the 8 to 10 mile run out to 600 feet that was necessary earlier in the month. From now through Sept. the salmon will be staging inshore in preparation for their entry to the tribs. for the spawning ritual. Cut bait (herring strips) have truly made a strong comeback this season. We are using the big attractors...Oki Big Shooters and R&R Assassins with long leads to the Teaser Head. The water is still heavy with algae so glow attractors and glo heads will out perform their counter parts. We have been maintaining a bottom speed of 2.3 to 2.5 mph which enables us to also run some flies in conjunction with the cutbait. An occasional spoon and j-plug will also find their way into the pattern. The BOYZ from Brooklyn, NY Joe Tartamella (wood butcher), Jim Benedetto (wine taster), Paul Nuccio (lawman), and Marty Solomon (the judge) spent a busy Saturday with us catching kings.
We three kings from Perkasie are. Beth, Steve and son Julian from PA. fished with us on last Wednesday afternoon. They fished with me 20 years ago on Oneida and Ontario and decided it was time to share the experience with their son.
Tim Hunt (medicine man) local boy prodigy who has defected to Wisconsin, Keith Sweeney (my upholstery magician) and Tim's son Johnny (the man child) likewise took advantage of the good salmon fishing.
This year's salmon are running larger than in recent years. We have seen more thirty pound fish at this point in the season than we did all last year. The LOC derby will probably find the top ten fish in the 33 pound class and up. Whereas in recent years a 33 pound fish would take top prize. I JUST HAD A CANCELLATION COME IN FOR THIS COMING SATURDAY AFTERNOON FROM 1:00 TO 7:00 P.M., AUG. 19. If you are interested give me a call at (315) 427-2278.
e"fish"ently yours,
cap'n tony
