Fishing Report #16

11/01/09

Hello Fishing Frenz, Frenzettes, Frenzolescences, et. al.

I'm back and loving the night shift. Some pretty impressive catches this week! It would be presumptuous and inaccurate to say that every night is a great bite. Some nights the walleyes come through early and other nights they just don't come at all. This past week, from Monday thru Saturday included three nights of exceptional action. Let's start with Saturday (Halloween Night).

The bite started at 6:00 P.M. and lasted forty minutes. We boated twenty walleyes in that interim before the blitz came to an abrupt end.  The largest was nineteen inches and a hand full of eighteen inchers highlighted the catch. I even had my limit as part of the haul. This crew of Dennis Diefenderfer, Bruce Newhard, and Eddie Wagoner drove three and a half hours from PA. to enjoy an evening on Oneida Lake. They had their doubts during the ride with the afternoon including wind and rain. By 5:00 P.M. the wind subsided and the rain ended. A perfect window for our fishing trip. This was their first effort on Oneida and I'm sure it won't be their last. As you can see in the photo, firetiger, chrome/purple, chrome/blue Challengers were the "lure du jour".

Another night another bite. On Tuesday, Oct. 27 Shawn Wolf (ret. US Air Force) from Manchester, Tenn.. and his dad Ernie from Wyalusing, PA. spent some quality time picking away at the  shoreline for an impressive stringer of "EYES". A twenty two and two twenty one inchers rounded out this catch. No blitz bite this night, just a steady pick along the shore in Delmarter Bay. We basically tossed our stick baits in 6.5 to 5.5 feet while cruising along with the MinnKota RipTide 101 electric trolling motor. Again my limit is included in the photo along with the "lures of the evening" .

On Monday night, Oct. 26 more of the same...the "eyes" have it! Carlos Hall Jr. from Syr., NY  a deputy sheriff with Onondaga County and Billy Denham, Syr., NY a 35 year retiree from Carrier and co-owner of the B&B Lounge had their way with nighttime eyes. This was another night to cruise the shoreline and pick an eye here and there. When it all settled they had their limit and I had mine. Carlos was "top hook" of the night with a 21 inch eye. This was their first effort at nightcast and they are excited about doing it again!

The weather is getting  colder and the walleye fishing is heating up. I expect this to be an exceptional Nov. of walleye fishing by day as well as night. The daytime jig bite should soon be upon us. To date, I have not found any schooling in the deep water but that will soon change. When it does, the blades (Sonars, XPS Lazer Blades, Mad River Sports Jigging Blades) will all have their time. Mad River has come out with a blade which includes the ECHIP technology. This is the new evolution in jigging blades. The ECHIP emits a small voltage of 0.5 to 1.2 volts to attract the attention of predator fish in search of "nervous" prey. I am excited about this new product and predict it will improve jigging opportunities across the board.

If you are interested in a fall outing for walleyes, here are my remaining dates through Thanksgiving. Nov. 9, 16, 17, 22, 24.

"Fin"cerely,
