CAPTAIN TONY BUFFA FISHING CHARTERS
Fishing Report #15 07/31/08
Hello again Fishtoids, Toidettes, and sundry other angleroids: It's all about Lake Ontario...It's been another enjoyable week with a mixture of browns, steelhead and salmon playing host to the angling community. Browns are still hugging the bottom in 80 to 95 feet whereas the salmon and steelhead are a bit offshore in 175 to 300 . Browns of course are showing a preference for spoons (Michigan Stingers, Northern Kings, Finlanders, Silver Streaks, etc.); while the kings and steelhead are on the attractor/fly diet. Legendary Products Smart Fish, ProTroll E-Chips, and Spin Doctors in combo with A-TOM-MIK, Dreamweaver, Howie, and Mad River flies will keep you in the "hunt for big fish".Excuse the mixed metaphor.
It's been a fun filled week with some local celebs. Here's a perfect size brown trout for the outdoor BBQ. SU Director of Football Operations, Desmond Howard, former team mate of NFL great Tony Dorset, and SU legendary linebacker Dan Conley, now linebacker coach at SU, admire the fish and the sun while longtime SU fan and host Avery Sinclair proudly shows off a vintage Capt. Tony Buffa shirt. I even snapped into the photo while Jim Sollecito used the camera. It's been a fun filled week with some local celebs. Here's a perfect size brown trout for the outdoor BBQ. The Rekens from Massachusetts, dad David, son Gavin and thanks to mom Sally for taking the picture had an enjoyable ride with Capt. Paul Nagle who subbed for me aboard the BANDITO III. They said the lake Ontario outing for brown trout was the highlight of their vacation.
Phil Roe, Madison county's #1 deer processor, Hamilton, NY and son Corby Roe, Clarkson College alum and now resident of Buffalo, NY spent a relaxing HarborFest Sunday afternoon aboard the Bandito III and were rewarded with a daily double of King Salmon. Again the diet of choice was the attractor/fly fished 110 to 115 down over 270 feet. Corby's salmon tipped the scale at 23 lbs. Dr. Ahmad and son Raheel, Oswego, NY enjoy
their time on the water, especially when the fish are biting.
Their catch of 5 browns came from 90 feet of water just east of
Oswego harbor. They needed one more to fill their limit and we
opted to fish for salmon during the final two hours and did hook
up with a king which dumped the spool on its initial run and
eventually swam free. You can also
watch the action at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqCwPz2HJ6g .
I am fishing on a daily basis and will keep
you updated. Also if you are contemplating a salmon and
trout charter I still have a few openings in Aug. and room in
Sept.
The "Fish" be with you,
cap'n tony
