CAPTAIN TONY BUFFA FISHING CHARTERS
Fishing Report #13 07/27/09
Hello all my fishnoids, noidettes and noidescences: Another week, another report, and still more fish to be caught! Despite the weather, fishing continues to persist on both ponds ( Ontario/Salmon, Oneida/Walleye). Let's start with the bigs. Adult and juvenile salmon are now a daily presence at Oswego and the eastern basin of Lake Ontario. Most recently we have upwelled with cold water at 40 feet. Light penetration is very intense from 9:00 A.M. till 5:00 P.M. that necessitates offshore fishing in 450 to 550 feet where the "cline" is 70 to 80 feet down with less light penetration. Big Fin Glo and The Crazy Bitch flies by A-TOM-MIK perform consistently well in the deeper, darker zone attached to white glo Lengendary Smart Fish.
Dave Klock alias "Walleyeman", Bridgeport, NY, Ebin Winters, math teacher, Fulton, NY and Bill Murphy, masonry expert got in on some of the early salmon action mid-July. These were deep dwellers at 120+ depths all taken on the A-TOM-MIK crazy bitch fly in tandem with Legendary's white/mountain dew Smart Fish.
Kevin Wood, Central Square, NY, on his bachelor party outing made early contact with his first lake Ontario salmon. Brian Frear, N. Syracuse, NY, Pete Greene, Manlius, owner, operator, and #1 chef at Mother's Cupboard the (king of the frettas), James St., Eastwood, NY and Larry Stewart, Brewerton, NY coach and teacher at Central Square all joined suit with kings to make four of a kind. Again these were denizens of the deep.
Bob Andrews, Jamesville, NY with his guests from Roscoe, IL., godson Derec, Jim and Dominic Celletti former residents of Solvay had their hands full with four salmon and one brown. It was the boys first salmon outing. A reasonable "cline" at 75 to 85 feet off Four Mile Point provided the target zone. This was a copper, dipsy day outing with few hits off the riggers. The only rigger hit come on the new Wonder Set dipsy conversion by Legendary fished as a down and out.
Just when you think the jig bite on Oneida is over until fall returns, you get that surprising day with walleyes hugging the bottom as was the case on July 22. Marc Brown, Oswego, NY and guest Doug Reardon, Summerville, SC pounded the bottom along with me for a full limit of nine "eyes" and seven yellow perch all on the 3/4 oz Mad River Sports, gold vertical jigging blade. We found these fish on the deep side of 32 feet sliding into 38 feet where "pancake" (iron manganese concretions) meet the mud. One quarter mile south of 119 and on the drop north of Larkin provided the best action that morning. With one cast remaining in the six hour outing Doug completed the nine fish limit! Despite the late nature of the season, walleyes continue to bite on Oneida. Usually by now I am exclusively on Ontario but for this season I am still booking on Oneida as well as Ontario. Whatever your pleasure, bass, walleye, perch or salmon the venue and the menu is with My Gal Cal or the Bandito III. I still have openings in August. Call or send an email with your request.
"SEAS" the day and have a "HULL" of a time,
cap'n tony
