Fishing Report #13

07/18/08

Hello all my fish'n "fin"atics:

Time again for another missive mostly from the big pond except for a final word on Oneida until I return in the fall.

Kevin McCarthy, Saranac Lake, NY took his dad, Ed, Sylvan Beach, NY on a walleye outing for his 70+ birthday. They jigged their way to five hefty "eyes" in the deep water around buoy 121. Ed boated the biggest at 22 1/2 inches.

Lake Ontario recognized as the leader of the Great Lakes for producing big fish is certainly living up to its reputation. Summer growth is now evident in browns and king salmon. We are finding concentrations of the bigger browns inshore at 90 feet in temperatures of 63-58 degrees Fahrenheit. A spoon diet consisting of  Michigan Stingers, Northern Kings, Evil Eyes, R&R's and Suttons presented at 2.1 to 2.3 MPH stretched anywhere from 30 to 100 feet beyond the weight should keep you in contact.

Nathan Desnoyers, Sherrill, NY had his hands full with this bruiser brown. He caught this fifteen pound brown in 90 feet at Nine mile point on a Michigan Stinger Tuxedo spoon. This is one for the taxidermist. Nathan's dad, Bill was happy to oblige.  Brad Long, Sam Martin, Nathan Desnoyers, and Ben Martin all from Sherrill tested their angling skills on Lake Ontario browns. The boys brought their dads Jim and Bill to watch them catch fish.

Phil Roe, Hamilton, NY, Madison County's number one deer processor, son Danny, a junior at Clarkson College and Ken Kunkel, Madison County Clerk tangled with the browns as well. Phil and Danny fought this pair of 12 pounders as a double hit coming on a dipsy and a downrigger. An R&R glitter shad, and an NK froggy proved irresistible to this pair of browns.

Jim and Arlene Milne, Barb and Dr. Ed Kantor all from Marcellus,NY  enjoyed their recent afternoon outing on lake Ontario. The brown trout bite offered the opportunity of double and triple strikes and toward the end of the outing we were blessed with a double of kings as a buzzer beater. Although you only see 10 fish on the hangers they did limit with two more browns.
