Fishing Report #10

07/02/10

Hello again fish'n frenz:

Another week on the water and a short one it was. That four letter word "WIND" prevailed and for the most part kept me and others more land bound than seaworthy. What time we did spend fishing however did have its rewards. Let's start with the A-TOM-MIK Challenge at Oswego. Now in its third year, the challenge has grown from a participation of 35 boats to 71 registered boats for last Saturday's tournament. Thanks to the many  and generous sponsors who offered support and guidance, this tournament is here to stay!

Team Proteus, Capt. Mike Conroy, Cazenovia far out fished the field with a score of 156.20. The nearest contender was Team Lateron with a score of 136.10. The score was compiled by weighing in at most six fish at 10 points per fish plus one point per pound.  Capt. Gerry Bresadola, aka Capt. Experience of Team Dixie Dandy won the Shane Zimmerman Memorial Big Fish award with a 28.10 pound king salmon. Team Buffa, estimated at 1:00 P.M.(the tournament deadline) for fishing, that its box didn't have the weight to figure within the top 12 teams so the team decided to continue to fish through 3:00 P.M. and skip the weigh-in. We did however return for the awards ceremony and dinner. Ralph Corliss, Frank DeGenero, Dick Culkin, Chuck Nojaim, Denny Ferris and Uncle Donnie D'Agata are holding the team's catch. Dick's salmon tipped the scales at 23 lbs.

As you can see, the salmon are finally showing some presence at Oswego. From this point forward the salmon fishing can only get bigger and better. I'll be wrapping up my walleye/bass effort on Oneida by mid-July and then target trout and salmon through the first week of October.

Here's a solo shot of Dick's big king.

Tom Halliwell ( aka Hollywood), has been fishing Oneida with his dad for most of his life and just recently caught his biggest ever Oneida walleye. This was a 30+ inch ole timer eye; and out of respect for this magnificent fish Tom practiced CPR (catch, photograph, and release). Congratulations Tom on a great catch.

There are times on the water when Nature provides a spectacular view. On this past Tuesday morning an impending cold front offered this scenic wonder.

Do have a safe and happy July 4th.

weekend.

God Bless America!!!
