Fishing Report #9

06/11/08

Hello my fitch'in frenzoiders & frenzettes:

Yet another report...we'll start with the little pond affectionately known a "NEIDA". Last Thurs., Jim Sollecito local award winning landscaper and traveled angler invited Rick Garrett, Biology and Ecology teacher at Skaneateles HS on a charter with me. Rick proved to be a quick study in the technique of blade bait jigging. Before the setting sun disappeared the angler duet boated nine different species . Here they are with a pre-season smallmouth and a walleye.

On Friday, June 6, Karen and Mike Cahill, Cicero, NY enjoyed their first fishing charter on Oneida. Our target of course was the wary walleye. After 3.5 hours of jigging and searching we finally found a small school of walleyes at Shaks. Point in 23 to 29 feet pasted to the bottom. Once again the Bass Pro Shops 1/2 oz. Lazer Blade in holographic gold prodded the walleyes to strike. Karen and Mike boated nine walleyes in the final hour and a half and had their limit of six.

On Sat., June 7, I fished with Adrian Harrison, Brian Hanley and Jerome Harvey who specifically wanted a pre-season bass charter. The current  NYS fishing regulations permit bass angling on a catch and release basis on Oneida Lake concurrent with the opening of walleye season. They have never fished the lake before and are dyed in the wool bass busters and needed a primer. It didn't take these guys but a few casts to experience NEIDA smallmouths. We fished from 8 to 5 feet at the following places: Wilson Pt., Larkin Pt., Dutchman's Island, Delmarter Bay, and Billington's Bay and never doubled back on any of the spots. I wanted to give them a good survey. They boated 44 bass of which 3 were largemouth.  The salt impregnated Yammamoto Senko soft plastic worms in watermelon, motor oil and black/chartreuse fished whacky style with no weight was the bait of choice. Here we see the threesome with a triple play.

In closing, a word about Lake Ontario. Gary Wood, Cicero and Jimmy DeRito, Syr., NY spent some time with me on Lake Ontario in pursuit of browns and early salmon here they are with one of each.

Happy Father's day to all you dads; and if any sons and moms are looking for a quick dad's gift, I do have gift certificates.

Bass Regards,
