CAPTAIN TONY BUFFA FISHING CHARTERS
Fishing Report #9 04/29/07
Hello Floaters, Boaters et. al. Me again with yet another fishing missive. Three days, three reports. The fishing is that compelling. I haven't seen a brown trout fishery this vibrant since the 1980's when we expected to catch our limit during every spring outing. We started the morning at 5:30 A.M. with the usual dock rituals and waited for sufficient light for a safe departure. A stiff west wind, compounded by rain and cold temperature weren't exactly what my crew from Westfield, MA. were hoping for. On the flip side however the brown trout did respond favorably to the weather mix and literally caught us. You simply needed to be there. We took a troll down memory lane. I began the effort at Burt Point (the Rice Bowl) and after a few loops decided to point the bow dead west and troll the shoreline in 8 to 12 feet. The upwind troll proved productive especially inside Ford Shoals and at Possum Point (Camp Hollis). Doubles and an occasional triple kept our guests reeling line and the fishes peeling line. Suddenly the cold sting was replaced by that familiar rush of conquering the elements and creeling the catch. Zach Koziol, Trent and Jeremy Taylor and Dave Dion caught this limit of browns by 8:45 A.M. We left the dock at 5:30 and began our troll at 6:00. Again all the action was on the surface with stick baits (Smithwicks, Jr. Thundersticks, Bass Pro Shops XPS Lazer Eye floating minnow in black/silver and blue/silver). With the stiff west wind I tried to maintain a trolling speed of 2.2 to 2.5 mph (GPS speed over bottom) heading directly into the wind.
I am still trying to put a charter together for this Tues. morning, May 1. I have two people interested and need three more at $100.00 each to fill the charter. If you're interested in some fast action and exceptional brown trout fishing call me at (315 ) 427-2278 or send an email in reply to this one.
Have some Brussell Trouts with your meal, cap'n tony
