CAPTAIN TONY BUFFA FISHING CHARTERS
Fishing Report #8
06/11/09
Hello, my fishers, fishettes, fisholescenses, and fishildren:
Time for yet another missive from both the big "O" and the little "o". Are we all having fun yet? From this side of the computer the answer is a resounding yes! Oneida has been the venue for both walleye and smorgasbord charters. Bass (smallmouth/largemouth), pickerel, panfish all cohabiting in 5 to 8 feet along the Delmarter Bay, and providing unlimited action on soft plastics. A veritable smorgasbord of catching. Yamasenko heavy salted plastic worms, rigged "WHACKY" style have been a solid presentation as well as tubes. Crankbaits are also holding a position in the regime.
Jim Sollecito, Baldwinsville, NY, world traveled angler, and NYS award winning landscaper with guests Judy Kelly, GM at WSEN, 92.1 and Joel Plumley of Plumley Engineering had non-stop action "bord" style. Here you see Jim with a pickerel, Judy with a smallmouth and Joel with a walleye. Watch the action at YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EKToE66wTOk
Now we shall take it to the big "O" where this past Sunday, June 7, Phil (deer processor/smoked meats expert) from Hamilton, NY and son Danny Roe recently graduated (engineering program) from Clarkson, ventured out on Lake Ontario at Oswego for some offshore salmon and lake trout fishing. They were not disappointed with their catch of four lakers, one king and several rainbows under 21 inches which will swim another day. Watch the action at YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz679pMXPRE. Here's Danny with his 15 lb. laker and Phil with a 14 lb. king salmon.
Walleyes are beginning to school on Oneida. Look for the deep drop-offs adjacent to prominent shoals. This catch with Tom Juno Sr., president of Power Seal, Liverpool, NY, Tom Merrill, president of the B'ville Rod and Gun Club, Bud Hayes, B'ville, NY, Tom Juno Jr., home on leave, US Air Force, Ellsworth Air force Base, S. Dakota and on route to a six month tour in Afghanistan, came on the deep side of the outer Lakeport Bar dead north of Fremac Waterfront. The WMD's were the Bass Pro Shops XPS 1/2 oz.Lazer Blades in the Gold/Black holographic finish.
Here it is mid-June. Expect more consistency with the walleye fishing. Catch rates should rise and a day-to-day pattern should repeat. At this point, I do not have any days left in June. However if you are looking for a charter I have 15 days open in July for either Oneida or Ontario.
Remember "Don't start anything you can't fish",
