Fishing Report #8

05/22/08

Hello fish'in frenzoids & zoidettes:

Another week, another report, another limit of "Neida Eyes"!  East end, deep water, bottom oriented walleyes and some jigging basics are all you need to fill your limit. When the weather permits and the wind isn't prohibitive the deep water fishery on Oneida has been as consistent as it gets. My charters have had successful catches using the Bass Pro Shops Lazer Blade 1/2 oz. Gold holographic in a jigging mode. Others are using the standard black/purple jig dressed with a nightcrawler with equal success.

On Friday morning, May 16 Pete Shevchuk of Siemens Co. with guests Tom Kirk, Rochester, and Cal Morley, Webster, NY and I caught our limit of walleyes. After a very dry effort at mid-lake we made the trip to the east end (buoys 109-107) and found walleyes tight to bottom in 28 to 32 feet. Blade bouncing in two quick drifts put 18 walleyes in the boat for 12 keepers.

Last Sunday, May 18, Phil Roe, Hamilton, NY, and guest Dick Kirby, VP at Hamilton Hospital and Danny Roe, a junior, at Clarkson College (my alma mater) tangled with the Brown Trout on Lake Ontario. Smithwicks trolled off of Otter Boards in 6 to 12 feet from Rice Creek to West Nine Mile Pt. entice six browns to the boat of which we kept four. For the second half of the outing we trolled out to 180 feet and back to the Green can at Ford shoals in search of Salmon/Steelhead but to no avail.

I am now available on a daily basis. If you are contemplating an outing for 2008 contact me now!

Have a safe and "fishful" Memorial weekend,
