Even the
superlatives
aren't
sufficient
to rate
the
quantity
of
browns
being
caught
east and
west of
Oswego
Harbor.
As much
as the
walleye

on
Oneida
was a
disappointment
on
Saturday,
May 2nd.
and what
it
lacked
in
action
was more
than
compensated
by the
quality
of brown

fishing
experienced
on Lake

Sunday
May 3rd.
I
struggled
on
Saturday
with my
deep
water
jigging program
only to
boat two
walleyes,
lose two
others
and find
a stray

after
sampling
much of
the east

Lakeport

Lewis

Some

did find

Sunday.
Sunday
morning
we left
my dock
at
Oswego

at 5:20
A.M. and
headed
west to
Burt
Point
where we
were
greeted
by
"cookie
cutter
browns".
These
are last

stock
averaging
three
pounds
or less.
Bigger
browns
will be
on the
way as
the
water
warms.
After
two

we
already
entered
catch

One hour
of

in

of
steelhead.
We did
manage
to find
four
"iron-heads"
in 160

kept a
27 inch

at 6-7
lbs. My

their

High

still
another

Oswego has undoubtedly been consistently the location for very good brown trout angling opportunities. As mentioned earlier, these for the most part are last year's stock and will continue to grow rapidly through the season. The bigger bruisers, two and three year olds will become more active as the water warms We are still fishing high 40's low 50's.
R&R has a new product on the market which I used for the first time on Sunday during the two brown trout outings. The R&R Slim Profile Trolling Spoon has it all: action, trolling tolerance from 1.4 to 2.8 mph, brilliant colors and a unique back painted with "gold ice" exclusive to R&R. This is a polished stainless steel blank 3 5/8 long 5/8 wide and 0.020 thick with a mesmerizing action. In this photo you see the Froggy and Golden Walleye/Yellow patterns. You can see the entire line at http://www.mytacklebox.com/
Now that my season is underway on both ponds. If you haven't yet scheduled your outings it is imperative to get to me ASAP especially if you need weekend dates. May, June, and half of July will be spent on both Oneida and lake Ontario. From mid-July through Oct. 10th. I will be available only for lake Ontario and then of course for the remainder of Oct. and all of Nov. it's "Night"CAST for Oneida walleyes.
