Fishing Report #2

04/14/09

Hello all my a"fish"cianados:

I'M READY; ARE YOU? Last night I attended an Oneida Lake Association board of directors meeting at the NYSDEC Fish Cultural Station in Constantia on Oneida Lake and today I put in a full day with my Bandito III at Oswego Marina on Lake Ontario. How's that for a "double dip". After seeing those walleyes in the holding tanks and hearing Mark Babenzien's presentation of this year's walleye run, I am energized and ready to move forward to opening day, May 2nd.

Here is a synopsis of this year's run.  Ice-out March 31, twelve net sets from April 1 to 11. Wind, snow, rain water temperatures 50-37 degrees Fahrenheit. 20, 990 males, 8, 827 females, 350 million eggs. Fry will hatch during the last week in April. 150, 000,000 fry destined for Oneida. They will be scatter stocked mid-lake. 500,000 fry held back for fall fingerlings to reclaim depressed walleye fisheries around the state. CONGRATULATIONS TO MARK AND HIS CREW AT THE HATCHERY FOR ANOTHER JOB WELL DONE!!!!!!!!

The Bandito III had a make-over during layup and now sports a blue bottom with blue detailing. She is polished and ready to "RIDE". On blocks at 8:00 A.M. Tues. morning.

In the sling at 9:00 A.M. and at the dock by noon.

Early brown trout fishing has been very successful. Smaller, trailerable boats have been fishing as early as March and have reported limit catches of Ontario's "football browns". Thursday is another prep day then the fishing begins this weekend. I still have openings for April. If your "itching for fish'n" I'm ready.

Until next "TIDE",
