A very Happy New Year hello to all my fish'n zoids, zoidettes, ziodescences & zoidenfants:
Another year... my 37th. as a charter captain; and the excitement, drive, and enthusiasm remains as fervent as ever. I guess that's the nature of fishing. The challenge and expectation of the next catch keeps us all primed for the fish of our lives. Hope your new year is off to a good start. I am back to campus for the spring semester and will also be starting my winter fishing seminars at Bass Pro Shops in Auburn, NY.
Here is a schedule of my presentations:
2012 Bass Pro Shops Seminars
Seminars begin at
11:00 A.M. and end at 12:30 P.M.
1. Lake Ontario (Spring and Summer Browns) Sat., Feb. 4.
2. Lake Ontario Salmon Fishing Sat., Feb. 11.
3. Lowrance HDS 10 (Fish finding and GPS) Sat., Feb. 25.
4. Oneida Lake Spring and Early Summer Walleyes Sat., Mar. 03.
5. Oneida Lake Walleyes, Weeds, and Nightcast Sat., Mar. 10.
I'll start the seminar season with one of my favorite talks. The how , where and what of brown trout fishing on Lake Ontario from ice-out through summer. This inshore species is our bread and butter fish. The spring fishery provides quick and easy access to an abundance of limit catches nearby Oswego Harbor. Once the thermocline sets up by mid to late June most of our brown trout effort is in 60 to 100 feet of water also close to home port.
Here is a brown trout catch spanning three generations of granddad, son, and grandsons. The Saulsburys and Greenwoods, all of Homer, NY spent a successful April, Sunday morning in pursuit of shallow water browns close to Oswego Harbor.

By contrast, Dan and dad Pat Moore from Frostberg, Md. and Jerry Brislin, Manlius, NY enjoyed the warmth of summer and the deep water bite during July. I will give a comprehensive seminar including both spring and contrasting summer techniques to lure these sometimes spooky and elusive browns.

The phone and email inbox has been busy now that the 2012 open water season is not far off. Clearly it's not too early to think about your fishing dates for this calendar year. In the meantime stay, warm, healthy and happy.
Fishfully yours,
cap'n tony
