Fishing Report #17

11/16/09

Hello again my fishing zoids:

The Energizer Bunny just keeps on going and so does the 2009 open water fall fishing season. You bet I'm loving it. Who knows, might take this into December (there goes the Christmas shopping)! Has it (the fishing) been good? A resounding yes and no! For awhile the nightcast disappointed the waders as well as the floaters. Hopefully last night's outing has broken the bad spell.

It was crush time at around 5:10 P.M. to 5:30 P.M. at Lewis Point followed by a steady pick right through 6:30 P.M. when number eighteen hit the deck. My crew of Mike Haefele, Syr., Pat Mahardy with Accent Advisors of Syr., Wayne Seybold, Fred Mahardy and Mike Cleary kept the "eyes "coming and the nays away. Jr. Thundersticks (FireTiger, Chartreuse) and Challenger (Purple/Chrome) were irresistible to prowling eyes. Sometimes it's just meant to be! When Fred and Pat Marhardy tag teamed on a lure/line entanglement and were attempting to unravel the mess Fred says "I feel a fish tugging at the line". He did the hand over hand routine to complete their limit and mine. These fish were fairly plump with three measuring in at 21 inches.

On Thurs. we loaded the deck of My Gal Cal with four charter capts. and the former VP of marketing and sales for MUSTAD. Bob Funk, Auburn, NY, Capt. Dave Wilson, B' Ville, NY, Senior Capt. Gerry Bresadola, Syr., NY, Capt. Paulie (Jabar) Nagle, Marcellus, NY and of course my self.  We left the dock around 1:00 P.M. and headed for North Bay to engage in the deep bite. It was there! Thirty two walleyes hit the deck with 10 keepers out of the group. Add to that another 30 white perch, two sheepers, and two yellow perch and you have a busy afternoon. At dark Capt. Paulie jigged up that last keeper walleye out of 32 feet on the Bass Pro Shops XPS Lazer Blade (gold/black 1/2 oz.). We then headed back to shore for nightcast which yielded one more walleye (the biggest at 21 inches for Bob Funk.)

Last Saturday, Nov. 7 it was the jig bite again that took the lion's share of our catch. This time we headed to Upper South Bay on the east end and fished the 17 feet contour line from Oneida Creek to Lewis Point and found cooperative eyes and yellow perch. When the lights went out we had 15 walleyes of which 11 were keepers and 15 yellow perch to highlight the catch. Again it was the XPS 1/2 oz. gold Lazer Blade. Jamie Tomb, Westfield, PA., Joe Fantasia, Elbridge, NY of Auburn Armature, Bob Moore of Auburn, NY, Drew Onifer, Corning, NY and Tom Syrell, Endwell, NY kept the blades pumping and the "eyes" popping!

Sometimes the night bite for walleyes is not what we expect it to be. Steve Aiello, Fayetteville and son Tommy shared an evening of nightcast. The walleyes disappointed that night but Steve did catch his biggest Northern ever at 34 inches and 13 lbs. It took a firetiger Jr. Thunderstick in 5 feet of water in Delmarter Bay.

Currently I am scheduled through Thanksgiving. If you are interested in a charter between Thanksgiving and the end of Nov. toss me a line or an email. If the weather holds I intend to keep chasing the "eyes".

"eye"ll be "SEA"ING you,
